Hamish..

… the Hairy Highland Coo is now complete. I am so in awe of the ease of using oil free pastel chalk. With every stroke, I continue to gain knowledge of how to make my art more realistic. I always love painting with oils, but they require carving out a set time to really get into a canvas. This medium is similar to oils in creating realistic images without the messy cleanup. Oils will always be my first love. But having the ability to sketch at will, in color, creating realistic images is a game changer for me.

Storing the finished product is a bit of a challenge over all the other mediums I use. Having researched fixants, I decided not to use them because they are known to drastically change the color and texture of pastels. So I’ll be storing them mounted with acid-free repositional art tape on archival matt board in a sleeve of acid-free museum grade Glassen Paper. I may be looking to turn one of our spare rooms into a storage place with shelves at this point.
