……..is good for the gander.
My husband takes an early morning walk before I rise for the day. It’s good exercise and helps him stay mobile in his daily living with Parkinson disease from Agent Orange exposure. As he walks, he takes photos of things he sees along his path to share with me when he returns home.
This particular photo really touched me. It was just a random shot that was so peaceful and beautiful.

So, of course, I was immediately interested in bringing it to sketch life. While it is hard for me to sit and sketch without an idea in my head, things that pluck at my heartstrings come easily. The images seem to flow from the graphite tip with no urging from my hand.
As with all the things I love doing, I took my time with this one. It is the first landscape I’ve drawn, and I really didn’t want to be finished. It came to life over the span of three days. I always add my own creative license to my creations, and this one begged for a shelter for some woodland creature in the old tree.
