I’m still sketching when I can. I’ve completed several birds and decided to attempt another animal species. I’ve always had a fascination with horses my whole life. Being raised in the city, my dream of owning a horse didn’t happen until I was grown and bought a house and a few acres in a rural area. I’ve had the honor of owning four horses since then, all having passed away years ago. I still miss them too this day.
While I loved every one of them each with their own sweet personality from Cinnamon, my first grade mare, to Miss Melody Heels (Missy), registered quarter horse, Donna’s April Delight (April), a registered racking horse, and Fancy Blue Eyes (Fancy), registered albino palomino racking horse, I have to say Fancy completely stole my heart. I purchased her in her second year from a neighbor. She reminded me of a unicorn sans the horn.
I only had her a few short years as she passed at the age of five, from what we believe was a brain aneurysm, possibly due to her albinism. She was the most magnificent white on white nickled coat over pink skin and crystal blue eyes horse that ever walked the earth. Her mane and tail were extra long, with the tail dragging the ground. He gait was like riding a cloud across the sky. She came out of her mama with that smooth gait.
I decided to attempt to sketch her while I learned the steps to drawing horses. I am pleased with the first attempt, especially the eyes. But there is a sureal look more so than a realistic rendition. She kind of leans toward that fantasy version of the unicorn I’ve always associated her with.

Were this not a full front view, I would be tempted to add the unicorn horn. But I’ll leave her as is. I especially love the eyes. They are her eyes so full of expression.

I wanted more of a downward positioned head in motion pose for the second attempt. I also wanted as much detail as possible in her coat, eyes, and nose. A horse has beautiful bone structure in its head that I wanted to capture on paper. The one thing that pushes me to get better at sketching is my love of realistic detail.
So may I introduce to you Miss Fancy Blue Eyes, Palomino Extraordinare!
