Unexpected Update

So we did a thing this weekend. It wasn’t because we wanted to but we had to. Our oven went crazy on Thursday night while I was cooking dinner. It left me with singed hair and the inside of the oven looking like it had been used to cooked 20 turkeys with no lid!

I preheated to 380 degrees and placed burger patties and potatoes in to cook. Within less than 10 minutes the hall fire alarm was ringing and excess steam was pouring from the oven vent. I opened it to remove the meal which was already done! The oven seemed hotter than normal and was flashing an F10 error and beeping. I closed the door, turned the oven off, put the food down and went to push my hair behind my ear. It felt like it had something in it so I went to the bathroom to check.

The hair on the right side of my head was singed! I combed until the dead pieces stopped falling out. I didn’t smell lots of burnt hair like I did back in the 80s when an outdoor grill flashed up in my face causing lots of damage to my hair and a full day in a salon getting moisturizer treatments. But the extremely hot air has definitely burnt a section causing it to be much shorter than the rest of my middle back length hair😐.

Not much I could do about that but I was now very scared to use the oven. After dinner I searched out the code that stated the temperature control panel was faulty. That settled it. The rest of the evening was spent researching ovens. Ours was 19 years old so I wasn’t paying to have it repaired. We were fortunate to find the one we wanted at a local big box store that could deliver the next day.

This morning we had a brand new stainless steel oven delivered. It was ready in time to cook tonight’s dinner. Life is back to normal sans a few hairs on my head. One nice thing about long wavy hair, it’s easy to hide the shorter section until it grows back out.

Looks like we will be updating all the other black appliances to stainless as they need replaced. I always wanted stainless appliances but never felt comfortable paying the high end price. One nice thing about being debt free is the ability to purchase the upgraded appliances.

I’m not in a hurry to spend another chunk of change on appliances but it will most likely be the dish washer next. The fridge has a few years left in it.
