Long ago talents renewed

I’ve developed a routine the last couple weeks of sitting daily to sketch something. I used to draw in the early 90’s to keep me busy while students worked on their assignments in a high school art class I often substitute taught. I had actually forgotten about those sketches till I went looking for a pad to draw my cousin’s terrier on.

So I decided to revive that long ago talent to see if I can improve it a bit. Time flies by when I am sketching like it does when I get involved in a painting. I’ve drawn several things….one a day……some I love and some are just ok. But I have put my signature to them all with the date drawn so I will have a record of my progress.

As with my painting, I find I draw my best when it is a subject close to my heart. My plan is to make a display on the large empty wall in the downstairs den and along the stairwell in simple black frames with museum glass with what I consider the best of the drawings.

So far this hummingbird is my favorite. He is hovering over one of the Scottish Fantasy day lilies that bloomed in the yard this summer. I have a ❤️ for hummingbirds from way back. Combined with my favorite day lily, it came off quite well.

Another creature I often photograph is the great white egret that hang around the river front. Adding a few cattails to this sketch was the perfect addition to this lone regal bird.
