… was really jonesing for some traditional comfort food. So we headed to our favorite local Irish pub Harp & Clover. We were told that the chef is now full owner which is wonderful because he can expand and cook what ever his Irish genes thinks up. I expect to see even more Irish specialties on the menu soon.
All of their foods are amazing. I just really wanted their version of comfort food. One of our favorites while traveling the outer Hebredes and Northern highlands of Scotland was shepherds pie. It has all the foods loved by us American southerners like mashed potatoes, gravy, green peas……. yep all those wonderful, fill your belly, delicious sensations. Some had lamb and some had beef. The variety of a single dish depending on the area was amazing.
Well, this little local pub has its version of Shepard pie made with beef and topped with fried onion rings. It comes with a side salad, balsamic vinegarete dressing and a slice of delicious hard crust bread. Even though I no longer cook with white enriched wheat, I know there are times it will be the only option when dining out. Remember, an occasional piece doesn’t destroy a healthy eating life style. My one downfall has always been fresh from the oven hot yeast bread, not sweets like most people. So this one slice was extremely satisfying.
