I’ll never understand why people prefer packaged processed food over fresh home-cooked. I see absolutely no advantages and this comes from someone who raised and cooked regularly for a family of four. We had active schedules with band, cross country track, ballet, karate for the two children on top of simply living an active family life.
The packaged stuff lacks in nutrition and heaps on all the bad sugars, salt and carbs. I will always peregrine to cook fresh.
I’ve been busy today and realized it was getting past dinner time before I even started cooking. I got busy and had a delicious, nutritious meal on the table in less than half an hours time.
There is an old southern dish that many consider a comfort food. It flashes memories of good times and special occasions through one’s mind and is a simple “pear salad” consisting of a pear half on top of a lettuce leaf, topped with a spoonful of Mayonnaise and shredded cheese. My upscaled version consists of lettuce, pear quarters, walnuts, craisins, blueberries, a dollop of mayonnaise and shredded sharp cheddar cheese. It makes for a colorful addition to any meal. I prepared this dish while sweet potatoes baked in the microwave and ground chuck patties broiled in the oven seasoned with that wonderful gun powder season hubby loves.
We enjoy baked sweet potatoes topped with a heaping spoon of fresh sweet butter and another of Turbinado sugar. With the addition of sweet red ripe tomatoes the meal was ready to eat. Fresh baked oat flour shortbread cookies were waiting on the counter for dessert.
