I just have to discuss this issue that seems to be growing. I honestly will never understand the need of people to leave a mark…… an unnecessary damaging mark on nature. The words Group think comes to mind….. you know those people that tend to do whatever the others do without rhyme or reason?
I saw this phenomenon all over the areas we visited while in Scotland and did my part to remove the tourist created ones as I came upon them. What in the world am I rambling on about? The insane…… yes I used that word…. action of damaging nature by stacking stones and even driving coins into living trees! While one tiny stack or one or two coins really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, the groupthink crowd takes over and then you have the locals on the Island of Skye having to remove stones causing damage to their livestock and erosion! We intentionally did NOT visit that island because we didn’t want to be near crazy tourist and see the damage they caused there.
Does anyone remember the Pont Des Arts bridge in France??? I’ve seen that on the bridge over the river in Inverness and locally on the walkways along the Coosa River! Seriously people! Not to be a party pooper, but please grow up, enjoy our beautiful world without having to leave your mark! Take photos, enjoy the sites and sounds, tell people about your travels. There is no need to destroy. The sadly insane thing is if you run up on one of these people, they seem to be of one of two types. Either they have no clue the collective damage they are causing OR they don’t care as long as they get to add to it!
So why this rant today? Because of what I saw yesterday. I intentionally left it out of yesterday’s blog because I felt it important enough for its own post. I’ve traveled to, camped in and enjoyed Little River Canyon for near 48 Years! We tent camped with our children and our very large dogs. It was a if we never were there when we packed up to head back home…… no sign of us was left other than a signature in guest logs of varied places of interest. Never until yesterday did I ever see a sign like this because there was NEVER a need for one! But yep…… there it was….. not just one but several!

If you can’t enjoy nature without leaving your mark, please do everyone a favor and just don’t go there!
