3 Loves in 1

As my home page states, I have many loves. Today I am combining 3 of them because it is a bit warm to be out in the garden. I prefer natural remedies of at all possible and I’m needing a bit of a perk me up today. My goto herbal tea is peppermint for its plethora of goodness waiting to be released. Just a touch of raw honey for sweetness to really bring out the flavor is just right for anything from digestive upset to tension, to sinus help and a tasty pick me up to always having fresh breath. There was a time that I grew, dried and ground fresh peppermint for tea. But with time, age and priority needs changing it is simply easier to purchase. So I usually head to my favorite yarn and tea shop, Taming of the Ewe , for natural, organic peppermint tea. A half pound bag for $13 will meet my needs for a long while.

I’ve been working on a knitting project that is about ready for blocking. I enjoy working in strips so it is more portable so I can take it with me to work on while in waiting rooms and such. I’ve actually taken small protects to work on during church service and recently a young girl has started bringing her own knitting. We tease that our section of pews will become the knitting/crocheting area. It thrills me to see young people take an interest in the ancient arts. So I am working through all the ways to knit using colors and this is the 8th of 10 36 inch long panels that will be sewn together with added border. This particular technique uses 3 different colors at once using a butterfly stitch to create the textured multicolor diamond shapes. It is actually quite fun to do and relaxing as well.

My third love in this writing is of course healthy wholegrain cooking. I was thrilled to find this very old 1947 primer of recipes of Mildred Ellen Orton. There is a bonus of lots of history on cooking with grains included. You can find it at the original Vermont Country Store among many other goodies to purchase.

So I sit here sipping my tea, knitting with an occasional break to read more recipes I want to cook. Great way to detox from the summer heat and the craziness happening outside my door. Praying all of you find ways to enjoy the simple things in life till next time.
